Dr. Tareen is a double Board-Certified psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience in both academic and clinical settings. In addition to serving as Medical Director at Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health, she is an Professor of Psychiatry at Western Michigan University's Homer D. Stryker School of Medicine. Dr. Tareen also proudly serves as President and Board Member of the Kalamazoo County Medical Society, which serves to promote the betterment of public health and the medical profession. 
 
Throughout these various roles, she is renown among her patients and peers for providing compassionate, knowledgeable and comprehensive care for patients suffering from complex psychiatric issues. As an experienced psychiatrist, Dr. Tareen takes an avid interest in a broad spectrum of psychiatric issues, especially in areas such as women's behavioral health, psychodermatology, and psychosomatic medicine. In addition to authoring Pediatric Psychodermatology: A Clinical Manual of Child and Adolescent Psychocutaneous Disordersher research has been published in a variety of prestigious journals, as well as presented at national and international conferences.

Nisar Tareen

Nisar Tareen serves as the CEO of Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the facility, as well as exploring further opportunities to increase efficiency and promote growth. 

 

Nisar has 40+ years of experience in information technology and business management. During this time, he contributed to projects for various international corporations, including (but not limited to) The Islamic Development Bank, Al-Khaleej computer consultancy, Pakistan International Airlines, ENAR Petrotech Services, Unitel, AT&T Canada, Comtech,  Allianz Insurance, ADP Payroll, and Cross Huller. As a result of his extended experience in the business world, Nisar has a unique leadership style that prioritizes cultivating trust, developing interpersonal relationships, and enjoying the lighter side of life.

 

When Nisar is not busy with his official responsibilities, he can likely be found playing 18 holes on the golf course, traveling or catching up on current events.

Shirley Sanders, PA-C
Physician Assistant, Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health

Shirley Sanders has been a certified Physician Assistant for over 40 years. During this time, she has gained extensive experience serving patients in family health, women’s health, and mental health facilities. Shirley graduated with honors from Western Michigan University’s Physician Assistant. She received her Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska where she specialized in Women’s Health.

 

Shirley has a special interest in the holistic application of mental health. In that regard, she feels strongly about the impact of mental health on the physical well-being of all of the patients she has an opportunity to evaluate. She also applies her experience in women’s health to the mental health challenges faced by women all along the spectrum of hormonal function.

 

Outside of the office, Shirley enjoys being in the outdoors, working in the garden, as well as cooking and sewing. She and her spouse of 35 years love to spend time with their large family, including 12 grandchildren!

Amy Fritz
Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health

Amy Fritz graduated with honors from the University of Michigan and has been aggressively pursuing her professional career. Amy has been with our office for over two years and has found her joy in behavioral health with specific interest in the elderly population. She has an extensive background in working with patients and families using a multi-modal approach to care; she has worked in Hospice, Homecare, Gastroenterology, and Emergency medicine throughout her career as a nurse and her enthusiasm for health is contagious.

Amy is passionate using a variety of techniques and practices to get patients to their optimal health and wellness. This past year she has earned a certificate of completion of Sva Sadhana Yoga and Ayuveda training. She is highly supportive of holistic health modalities including Eastern Medicine.

 

Her unique nursing background assists her in caring for patients as a whole; taking into account their support systems, home life, and personal medical history. Amy is a firm believer in the power of physical health as a modulator while participating in biking, running, yoga, and other exercising as an adjunct to her health practices. Amy also encourages the importance of a healthy diet to promote health specifically with regards to clean eating and a paleo lifestyle. Amy is a firm advocate of meditation and mindfulness as part of a daily routine to center our lives and promote well-being.
